WAGNER Prelude to “Lohengrin”, Act III

TCHAIKOVSKY Violin Concerto in D Major

TCHAIKOVSKY Symphony No. 6 in B Minor, “Pathetique”

Alexander Norton violin

Chris Upton conductor

HSSO returns to the Hills Grammar School for its final concert of 2020!

The orchestra is thrilled to welcome Alexander Norton, violinist from the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. He joins us to perform Tchaikovsky’s exquisitely beautiful Violin Concerto, a treat you do not want to miss!

Wagner’s Prelude to “Lohengrin” from Act III is a short but delightfully playful introduction. The opera itself is most recognisable for the Bridal March (“Here Comes the Bride”), but this opening to the final act of the opera is a jubliant romp that is only four minutes long, but is an exhilirating ride!

HSSO concludes its 2020 season with Tchaikovsky’s heart-wrenching Pathetique Symphony. Written by Tchaikovsky in an intensely difficult period of his life, the music always returns to this feeling of despair and longing. There are moments where joy reigns, and the melodies are beautiful and songlike, but the symphony does not end happily as so many of them do. It fades into the distance, that longing still present.

Tickets for this concert are $30 for adults and $15 for concession.

The concert should conclude at approximately 9:30 pm.
